thoroughly irrelevant band defense #497
Get in your limited-range time machine; set the chronodestinator to September 2004, when Tegan & Sara's third (and, even in the present, newest) album, "So Jealous," comes out. Their voices are thin and not unwhiny. Their songs clatter and pulse anxiously. These Canadian alternatwins love to repeat themselves... in their choruses, in their verses, in their melodies -- shit, the whole album's really just one megasong. A New Pornographer may have helped produce this disc, but he certainly didn't bring along his own band's need to cram 11 ideas into each track. Tegan & Sara spin plenty of songs out of barely half an idea, and that's not an insult. These aren't teenage symphonies to God -- they're Zen koans. And if you'll excuse me, I have some meditation to get to.
